Our host organization: Bloominglabs

This is Bloominglabs’ 11th year hosting Makevention! Come check out their tables and learn more about becoming a member!

Bloominglabs is space for sharing tools and knowledge to make stuff and is Indiana’s first hackerspace (also known as a makerspace). They are a group of people who rent a shared workshop with an amazing array of shared tools where they can build all kinds of projects both collectively and individually. Bloominglabs is located at 1840 S. Walnut Street.

To be involved with Bloominglabs, you can:

  • Join BLabs for a monthly membership fee and build and make at the space, use the shared tools, and collaborate with the makers there;
  • Attend low-cost workshops on all kinds of cool creative topics;
  • Come to the public nights every Wednesday and try out the space;
  • Or all of the above!

They are open to the public Wednesday evenings from 7pm until 10pm. Their open hours are family friendly. Come visit Bloominglabs at Makevention to learn more about their collective space, or visit bloominglabs.org.

The Jerry Slocum Collection of Mechanical Puzzles embodies a lifetime pursuit of the intriguing and the perplexing. The result is a collection of over 35,000 mechanical puzzles from all over the world, in addition books and manuscripts on the subject.

The mechanical puzzles in the collection range from puzzles locks from the antiquity to innovative designs made with modern tools such as laser cutters and 3D printers. Learn about the different types of mechanical puzzles and the challenges each pose.

Puzzles from the hands-on collection will be at the booth for attendees to solve. Hear from the Lilly Library’s Curator of Puzzles about how puzzle designers develop their deviously difficult creations and maybe find a new idea for your next project.

Level Up at Monroe County Public Library

Come visit the Monroe County Public Library to learn how to use 3D printers, make a podcast, record a hit song, or digitize your old film and cassettes! We have tools and creative software for a myriad of creative pursuits, such as Adobe Audition, Premiere, Photoshop, Logic Pro, and more!

Recycle Into Crafts

I make all the items I sell, and many items use recycled and natural materials. I make clay earrings, some are holiday themed, handmade earrings from beads and paper, necklaces from beads, dominoes, paper, and glitter, hand painted butterfly houses and boxes, hand painted boxes with wildflowers, snowmen ornaments from recycled light bulbs, other Christmas ornaments, and blue jean pocket purses. I also include a free decorative box or bag with each jewelry purchase. I try to specialize in inexpensive gift items especially for children. I make handmade jewelry kits, necklaces, earrings and bracelets for children that are affordable for children to purchase.

The Quadrangles and ICE Robotics

The Quadrangles and ICE Robotics are showcasing the many opportunities that competitive robotics offers to area students. This interactive exhibit includes three levels of robotics designed for elementary through high school students.

The Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA)

The Society for Creative Anachronism recreates all aspects of pre-1600s society, creatively! We boast brewers and sword fighters, dancers and artisans, scholars and royalty, battles and feasts. If you like working with your hands and learning about history, the SCA is a wonderfully inclusive place to do it. All ages are welcome in the Society, and makers and learners of all skill levels.

The Society for Creative Anachronism recreates all facets of pre-1600s history. This swordfighting demonstration will show off both skill with swords and artistry. Watch skilled fighters display their prowess, and also admire their garb and armor, made specially by hand for fighting purposes.
