Meet the Makers: Soapy Soap Company

The Soapy Soap Company manufactures all natural bar soap in Bloomington, Indiana. They will demonstrate how they make soap and will have hands-on activities at Makevention where attendees can make their own bar of soap by mixing in soap additives such as oatmeal, fennel, and clay.

Bloominglabs will also have a vacuum former at Makevention, so stop by Bloominglabs to make a soap mold you can use at the Soapy Soap booth.

Meet the Makers: Amateur Radio Clubs

At least three local Bloomington amateur radio clubs will be at Makevention – Bloomington Amateur Radio Club (BARC), Indiana University Amateur Radio Club (K9IU), and the Bloomington South High School Amateur Radio Club (K9SOU).

These groups will collaboratively setup a portable receiver for HF signals and a couple of VHF/UHF stations. They may attempt crossing ham radio with computers through an APRS demo or a “cheap SDR” demo. Local radio contacts will be demonstrated live, and radio operators, or “hams”, will be on-site to answer questions.

Meet the Makers: Wonderlab

WonderLab is an award-winning science museum located in Bloomington. WonderLab provides opportunities for people of all ages, especially children, to experience the wonder and excitement of science through hands-on exhibits and programs that stimulate curiosity, encourage exploration, foster lifelong learning and explore connections to the arts and everyday life.

Stop by the WonderLab Booth during Makevention to experience the connection between the “maker movement” and science centers. Select from two hands-on projects and see what other kinds of surprising experiences await makers of all ages at the WonderLab Museum.
